Kenshin was Battousai the Manslayer during the Tokugawa period but disappeared as the regime fell. He resurfaced during the Meiji Restoration, when he met Kaoru and decided to settle down for awhile. Kenshin has given up his killing ways to live a life of peace, and therefore fights with his blade on the wrong side.
